skarn check needs a free license, and this is where you get it. Enter a company name, a work email, and a developer count, pass a quick challenge, and we email you a one-time confirmation link. Click it, confirm your address on the page it opens, and your license is issued there and then. skarn assess needs no license at all. The binary never phones home: the license is an Ed25519-signed file verified offline against a key embedded in the binary, and the scan makes no network call.

What the free license unlocks

The free license is the full local product for you, at no charge: the entire detection engine, session search and recall, the localhost web UI, every output format - text, JSON, SARIF, NDJSON - redaction, and CI gating. skarn check uses it; skarn assess and the recall commands need none. It is not a trial, and nothing in it is time-limited or crippled to sell the paid tiers, which add the org controls: policy-as-code, org baselines, a tamper-evident audit log, the maintained feed, and guard enforcement.

The license expires after a year to a warning, never a refusal - past expiry skarn check keeps running, keeps detecting at full strength, and prints a renewal line, so an expired free license cannot break a CI pipeline. Your use of the free license is governed by the Skarn Free Edition License Agreement, and the details you enter are handled as described in the privacy notice.

Nothing you scan ever reaches us.
